I am so excited about this drawing!  This gorgeous image represents an entirely new way of working with oil pastels for me.  It was thrilling to create.  And I am so happy with the results.  This piece is richly colored and elegant and timeless and it sticks with you.  It is very satisfying to see.

Feathers are symbolic for me.  They represent freedom and imagination and hope.  I created this unusual image to bring a bit of inspiration to your home or office.

How Feather was created.....   Oil pastels can be tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  In this case, I drew the feather first in white and filled it in with white, also.  Then I redrew the lines of the feather in brown and rust and ochre and several other shades.  Next, I created the yummy earthtoned background.  And then I used a razor blade to scrape through the top layers and create that cool feather.  I layered white on top of the feather again and then scratched through again.  And I redrew the lines of the feather several times and scratched the off several times, too.  To get that wonderful warn, almost transparent, dreamlike quality.

Feather was created on a white acid-free mat board.  You will want to frame this piece to protect your investment.  One affordable way to frame this unique drawing would be to purchase a standard-sized 11" x 14" frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the drawing together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the drawing to fit the frame.  That would give you a decent sized mat border on all sides and would allow for a lovely presentation of your new drawing.
