Title: Flying Completed in: 2008 Size: 6" x 6" Materials: Gouache and ink on bristol paper The words read: Powerful dreamer. |

MY REACTION: The older I get, the more I want simple. Pure. Emotion. When I was younger, I was concerned with complexities. Enormities. Making a big impression was important. Showing what I could do. Now, I know what I can do. And I just want to make simple exclamations. Colorful little stories that help folks feel. CONTENT: It is too easy to fall for our fears. To stay on the ground and pat ourselves on the backs for being reasonable and responsible. And safe. Life requires risk. Vibrancy. Passion. Wild leaps into the unknown. Where you just might find your truth. A bigger, better, more powerful version of yourself. ARTISTIC CONCERNS: This is among the first in a new body of lose expressive gouche, graphite, and ink pieces. They are fresh and fun and exciting for me to create. I typically sketch the piece in regular old pencil, paint it with layers of gouache, then finish it with fine artists' pens or a harder pure graphite pencil that makes nice deep silvery lines giving the piece a wee bit of a stained glass feel. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: This piece is on acid free bristol board paper (kinda like cardstock). You will want to mat and frame this painting to protect your investment. It will be shipped in a glassine storage bag or envelope. Sandwiched between protective cardboard sheets.
