Merriam Webster dictionary defines fortitude as "strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear pain or adversity with courage."  Isn't that just about the loveliest definition you have ever heard?  What a fine word.

This gorgeous little piece has all sorts of character.  Nicks and scratches and abrasions.  Layers of color.  Glowing warmth.  That beautiful ripe heart.  And the words, "We will survive this, too."

I am hopeful this unusual painting will offer you comfort and inspiration in times of confusion and loss.  And a soft spot to rest your eyes in easier times, too.

How Fortitude was created:   I used dental tools and a screw driver to "age" and abrade the surface.  Then I used brushes, my fingers, and a soft cloth to apply layers of color.

(The image continues around the sides so you can display your new artwork unframed. This is a digital photo, the scans above are more accurate.)

Fortitude was painted on a small square wooden plaque. The beveled sides of the board have been painted and this piece looks great on a small display stand.  Or, if you prefer, I would be happy to add a sawtooth hanger to the back so that you could display this original painting without framing directly on the wall.  Just be sure to request the hanger at the time of payment if you want one.  Also, if you feel this small piece will be handled often, please request a coat of protective varnish at the time of payment.  I would be happy to add a coat at no charge.

We will survive this, too.
