Oh I love this painting!  The words in this piece read, "Adults can do whatever they want."  That is true, but most adults forget that truth.  Most adults think they must live this way or that way and they must ignore their spirits in order to live according to outside rules.  We have to challenge ourselves every day to ignore those self-imposed rules and imagine better lives for ourselves.  Live filled with freedom and joy and memorable moments.

This piece has some gorgeous expressionist painting and some fine detail work, too.  I am hopeful that Freedom will inspire some "trapped" adult out there to reclaim their adult freedom and make some daring choices.  Have some fun!

How Freedom was created.....   After the black gesso primer dried, I used palette knives to create an earthy expressionist painting filled with warm vibrant colors.  That lies underneath the image you see.  Once the underpainting dried, I used a variety of traditional paint brushes to add the many many layers of color that evolved into this finished piece.  And finally, I used tiny 18/0 spotter brushes to paint the central character and the words.

Freedom was painted on a rigid canvas panel.  The edges of the panel have been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel.   Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.

Adults can do whatever they want.
