I have been longing to get back to minimalist expressionist abstract painting.  Pure color, lines, shapes, light.  No words, no heavy content.  Just beautiful moving painting.  This is the first in what I hope will be a series of such paintings.

Bats often appear in Native American lore as symbols of rebirth and renewal.  This lovely bat in flight is a Guardian painted to bring you hope and a fresh start.

How Guardian was created...  First, I used palette knives to apply texturing gel with fine fine sand all across the surface of the canvas.  I kept this application loose and organic.  While the gel was still wet, I used a foam stamp in the shape of a bat to make a clear impression in that texture.  I then used a dental tool to further clear away material from the bat area.  Once all of the textured area were finally dry, I painted the entire canvas with a gray base coat.  When that base was dry, I used palette knives to layer color all across this piece making a beautiful rich jewel-toned sky.  And finally, I used brushes to paint the bold bat.

(The image continues around the deep staple-free sides so you can display your new artwork unframed.  This is a digital photo.  The scans above and below are more accurate.)

Guardian was painted on a large 10" x 20" professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.
