This piece makes me smile or even laugh out loud every time I see it.  It is a lovely soft gentle expressionist painting topped by an ambitious hamster that is slightly less gentle.

So, I have been working on a Cheat Sheet piece about how we absorb common perceptions and even allow them to override our own experiences.  A little later, I am squinting and focusing and painting this little hamster and something occurred to me.  When I began this piece, I had other words in mind.  And a different sort of hamster, too.  I was thinking fondly about how we had hamsters as kids and how all kids should have hamsters, etc.  Except that is not how I really feel.  That is the common warm fuzzy idea about hamsters.  The reality of my experience was that I hated our hamsters.  They totally freaked me out.  They bit and they were fragile so I was always afraid I might squeeze them to death (I never did) and one time they made babies which freaked me out even more.

For the record, I now think hamsters are adorable and fun.  And I know many adults who thoroughly enjoy keeping them as pets.  I am just not sure they are a good idea for small children.

I hope this playful image brings a bit of soothing color and a few amused smiles to your home or office.

How Hamster Law was created.....   I used palette knives, a variety of brushes, and a soft cloth to create this unique little piece.  I worked on this painting off-and-on for several weeks.

Hamster Law was painted on a thin, lightly textured masonite square.  The edges have been painted and this piece looks lovely displayed unframed on a small plastic stand or on a display easel.  Otherwise, it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.
