Horses and Donkeys

Completed in 2007

6" x 6"

Acrylic on gallery stretched canvas

The words in this piece read:  A horse is not a donkey.  And a donkey is not a horse.

(Enlarged to show details.)

This painting is a gem.  I happy treasure.

Here is what I imagine is unfolding....

  ***

"Which one of us is the horse and which is the donkey?"

"I think maybe we are both donkeys."

"Maybe we are both horses?"

"Nah, whatever you are, I must be the other thing."

"Yes, I suppose that is true."

  ***

Since I finished this piece, I have found myself responding to several different situations by thinking to myself, "Well, a horse is not a donkey.  And a donkey is not a horse."

How this image was created.....   I used palette knives and brushes to complete this painting.

This image was painted on a gallery stretched canvas primed with black acrylic gesso.  The image continues around the staple-free sides.  This painting may be displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a decorative display easel.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.

A horse is not a donkey.

And a donkey is not a horse.
