MY REACTION: I am surprisingly attached to this painting. I find it very pleasing, comforting, calming. It makes me feel good. That rabbit feels like an old friend. CONTENT: Rabbits often appear in Native American folk lore as symbols of fear. ARTISTIC CONCERNS: This is a beautiful lush piece. With soft subtle hues. Unexpected bits of color. It is very loose and expressive. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: This piece is on a stretched canvas. The fabric was stapled to the sides of the stretchers, but the staples are entirely covered with paint, so they do not detract. In fact, I am developing an affinity for these particular canvases. I like showing the construction of a thing. What lies beneath. My pieces are never meant to be "pictures" that pretend to capture something from life. They are constructs. Other worlds. And I like having the staples there to remind me of how the actual canvases come together. But I do paint over the staples, so this is a finished work suitable for display without framing. This painting would display nicely unframed either directly on the wall or on a small display stand. Or if you do choose to frame this painting, you could do so easily and affordably as it requires no matting or glass.
