MY REACTION: Oh these new pieces are like delicious exotic fruits. The colors are so ripe. In these works, I am just as focused on the use of color and the application of materials as I would be when creating a landscape or a portrait. These are beautiful abstracts first and foremost, the words come second. But the words add something, too, I hope. CONTENT: In Western culture today, much emphasis is placed on WINNING and ACCOMPLISHING and while those may be worthwhile pursuits in moderation, I think most of us need more FUN and PLAY TIME and unstructured REST. We need to live. I am an anti-goalsetter. ARTISTIC CONCERNS: This is a multi-layered oil pastel drawing with a wee bit of graphite. Many lines and letters are "etched" into the oil pastel with a dental tool. Some areas are purposefully rough and sketchy. Because life looses a bit of magic when you polish it too much. As for inspiration: These pieces, more then most, show how I have been affected by the gorgeous works of both Paul Klee and Wolf Kahn. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: This piece will need to be matted and framed if you want to protect your investment.
