This is one of those rare pieces that comes out of left field and totally surprises me. I had no idea what would appear here until the whole thing was complete. It is an unusual painting for me. An exciting painting. I hope to see more active patterns like this appearing in future pieces. And I like the narrative feel as well. I hope this emotional piece acts as a blessing of sorts. Protecting the home of some fellow "cold city" dweller like myself. How Innocence was created... After the black gesso primer dried, I used a paint roller and stencils to create some of the background patterns. (Very little of that layer remains visible in the finished piece.) I used a variety of brushes over the course of several days to create all of the busy lines that fill this dynamic composition. And I used tiny detail brushes to add the words and key lines as well as the heart. The words in this image read: "In this cold city ~ I do all I can to protect us." Innocence was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides. This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall. Or it can be shown on a small decorative easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass. This piece is also quite stable sitting alone on a table or shelf.
