Intersections

Completed in 2006

12" on each side

Acrylic on deep gallery-wrapped canvas

The words in this piece read:  We all overlap.

(Enlarged to show details.  You could display this piece in any direction.)

(The image continues around the deep staple-free sides so you can display your new artwork unframed.  The hues on the sides of the canvas are slightly darker than those on the surface in order to give the painting a greater sense of depth.  This is a digital photo.  The scans above and below are more accurate.)

Mmmm... this is my favorite abstract painting in ages.  It feel so good!  Those colors!  Those lines!  Such fun.  (Like watermelon flavored Jolly Ranchers candy.  Only better because it is a painting.  And it won't pull your fillings out.)  This piece is all about edges and boundaries and intersections and overlapping.  It is about separation and union.  About common ground.  With glowing warm colors.

The words in this piece read:  We all overlap.

How Intersections was created...  I worked on this one for a long time.  There are many many many layers of color here.  Some transparent and some opaque.  Some loosely applied with palette knives and some painted precisely with a variety of brushes.  I completed this piece using tiny 18/0 detail brushes to paint the accent lines and the words.

Intersections was painted on a professional-quality, triangular, gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.25" sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.  (Framers can frame this one!)  This painting is also very stable sitting on edge and could be displayed that way on a shelf or desktop.

I bought all of these uniquely shaped canvases that I could find, but that was not very many.  And I am sad to report that the manufacturer quit making them last year. So you will see a few more of these from me in the near future, but that will likely be it for triangular pieces.

We all overlap.

SPECIAL NOTE:  This site is gigantic.  And it evolved over the course of ten years and 2,000 paintings.  So far as I know, this is the largest single-artist portfolio website on the internet.  Very exciting, but I am a technological boob and I maintain this site all by myself.  That means there are glitches here and there.  Some pages are outdated.  Some formatting looks out of whack on different browsers.  You get the idea.  I apologize if you run into problems.  PLEASE email me and tell me about 'em so I can fix them.  Thank you!  Love to you, Melissa
