MY REACTION: I love this piece. CONTENT: A good customer has has several knee surgeries while raising her very young son. The pain is a constant burden for her. This is my take on one reason why she may be shouldering that burden at this time in her life. Because her strength is helping to shape her boy in ways neither may ever really know. ARTISTIC CONCERNS: This is the first in a new body of lose expressive gouche and graphite piece. They are fresh and fun and exciting for me to create. I typically sketch the piece in regular old pencil, paint it with layers of gouache, then finish it with a harder pure graphite pencil that makes nice deep silvery lines giving the piece a wee bit of a stained glass feel. In this case, I used the graphite pencil only to emphasize the Mama bird and her baby bird and the words. I included the crutches when redrawing the Mama with the silvery pencil because I see the crutches as an essential part of who she is in this moment. An essential part of what her son is learning from her. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: This piece is on acid free bristol board paper (kinda like cardstock). You will want to mat and frame this painting to protect your investment. It will be shipped in a glassine storage bag or envelope. Sandwiched between protective cardboard sheets.
