(Details)

Like the Sky has been waiting to get out of me for a long time.  It is a patient painting.  A quiet, hopeful piece with a story to tell.  More like a poem.  This painting has gorgeous layered color and a lovely transparent, warn feeling.  Like something that is both old and well loved and new and urban at the same time.  I often see similarities between weathered barns with the paint peeling off and urban phone poles with layers of torn fliers and graffiti.  I like that area where history and the future get tangled up together.

The words in this piece read, "I trusted her immediately."  And then the phrase, "Like the sky."  Have you ever met someone and as soon as you saw their eyes, you just knew they were a genuinely kind and decent soul?

This is a unique piece in all my work.  I enjoyed painting Like the Sky.  And I really love to look at this one.  I am hopeful it will bring a ray of hope and a few daydreams to brighten your home or office.

How Like the Sky was created.....   This painting evolved through so many layers and processes, I am afraid I will be unable to relay exactly how it came to be.  At various points, paint was applied with palette knives, fingers, brushes, and a dry cloth.  Paint was abraded or removed with dental tools, an ice scraper, and a damp cloth.  Some layers of color were left to dry before others were applied.  And sometimes layers were applied wet-on-wet and allowed to blend.  I finished this piece with tiny 3/0 detail brushes painting the beautiful woman and the words.

(The image continues around the staple-free sides.  This is a digital photo.  The scans above and below are more accurate.)

Like the Sky was painted on an 8" square gallery wrapped canvas.  The image continues around the staple-free sides allowing you to display this piece unframed if you like.  It looks beautiful hung on the wall as it is or set on a small decorative easel.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass.

I trusted her immediately.

Like the sky.
