This joyous snowman makes me so happy.  I love his posture, his expression, the fact that he is gray.  I love the snowy expressive painting behind him.  This whole piece was a thrill to create, an adventure.  And I am very fond of this one.  And I hope my snowman friend travels to a good new home with someone that appreciates the happiness that only a good snowfall can bring.

How Let it Snow was created...  First, I used wide brushes to create a bold expressionist painting filled with greens and reds and flecks of other hues.  After that dried, I used palette knives to loosely cover the canvas with a soft off-white color.  Once that layer dried, I repeated the process with bright white.  The result is a canvas that is very evocative of snowfall with a hint of Holiday colors peaking through and a nice organic finish.  Finally, I used a mid-size brush to paint the snowman in black, leaving wee breaks between the forms where the light background peaks through.  This gives him definition, but it also makes him less bulky and scary.  Once that dried, I layered blue-gray on top of the black almost-but-not-quite up to the edges.  Then I layered a warm gray on top of the cooler color.  I also painted tiny black "snow flakes" throughout the piece except on the snowman.  There I added white snow.

Let it Snow was painted on a large 11" x 14" professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.
