This is such a sweet painting. The textures and colors are very rich and full. And the little flower stands alone in her little bit of sunny warmth. The words read, "We need you. Be brave..." To me, this painting is an inspiration for those of us who happen to be colorful and fragile and small in a world that sometimes seems more suited to things that are big and solid and plain. The whole world waits for Spring. We need flowers today more than ever. We need vulnerability and color and boldness. So please be brave all you little flowers out there! Show your colors now. It is time. I am hopeful this beautiful distinctive textured painting will bring some of Nature's magic inside to light up your home or office. How Little Flower was created..... After the black gesso primer dried, I used palette knives to apply artist grade fine stucco to the panel. I cleared the texture away from the area that would eventually hold the little flower. Once that underpainting dried, I used a wide variety of brushes to layer color atop the panel over the course of many days. Finally, I finished this painting using tiny 18/0 spotter brushes to paint that sweet flower and the words. Little Flower was created on a rigid canvas panel. The edges of the panel have been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.
