This is a beautiful understated painting with rich textures and an ambiguous subject.  I have always been partial to the less obvious paintings myself.  The ones with stories you have to wonder about.  There is a single phrase painted along the upper edge of this painting is tiny fragile letters and that sentence reads, "I don't know."  I think that phrase is the story of my life.

I worked on this piece for several days and it is filled with unexpected bits of color.  My hope is that this unusual painting will bring a few thoughtful moments your way.

How Lost Sheep was created.....   Once the black acrylic gesso dried, I used a palette knife to apply layers of bright bold color across the surface of the piece.  I scraped that color (and the texture the results from knife painting) away from a central "window" area.  Next, I created a "frame" of sorts in the middle of the painting using a palette knife to apply this fabulous black texture gel I found.  Once all of that work had fully dried, I used a variety of traditional paint brushes to complete the piece you see now.

(The sides are painted so you can display your new artwork unframed if you like. This is a digital photo. The detailed scans shown above are more accurate.)

This piece was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so this artwork would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel.

I don't know.
