I am really surprised by the strong attachment I feel to this little drawing.  I am enamored with this piece.  It is a special image.  And I think it will look stunning framed.

There are words embedded in this drawing.  They are very subtle and can only be seen from up close.  The words were "etched" into the oil pastel using a dental tool and they read, "We all want to be loved."

I hope this lively minimalist drawing warms your walls with a splash of color and a gentle reminder of the vulnerability we all share.

How Loved was created.....   Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  As I often do, I laid down a VERY bright underpainting.  Then I used a straight-edged razor blade to strip that off, leaving behind colorful stains on the mat board.  Next, I built up layers and layers and layers of lighter colors.  The white lines between the fields of color were always left white.  Finally, I scratched the top colors off in lines that accent the edges of each color field.  I also scraped the heart clear of all color before filling it first with pale peach and then finishing it with a top coat of white.  I used a dental tool to subtly etch the words in and to add my signature and the date.

Loved was drawn on acid-free white mat board.  You will want to frame this lovely drawing to protect your investment.  One affordable means of framing is to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the artwork together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame.
