I love big ripe vibrant hearts. They are the perfect symbol for a full life. A living spirit. Over the years, I have painted many many heart. I use my heart paintings as exercises in the application of paint, the mixing of colors, the composing of a balanced image. I learn more through the execution of my heart pieces than any others. In this case, I am thrilled with the contrast between the softened muted hues and the bold pure colors. I love the loose painterly work in the background and the way the heart pops right off the canvas. But mostly I am happy about the words here. Because I think love looks and feels differently to each of us. It is easy to assume our own experiences to be universal, but like most assumptions, that thought cheats us out of a lot. If love looks like an apple to me and it looks like a horse to you. Too often we would both miss out on wonderful feeling by failing to see the intent behind the representation. I need to learn to appreciate your horse as though it were an apple. And vice versa. And maybe that is not a good example because undoubtedly your horse will eat my apple and I will have nothing and be mad and you and your horse will be quite pleased. Maybe I should have said love looks like a toaster to you. But you know what I mean. How this painting was created..... I used brushes and palette knives to create this lush layered piece. This piece was painted on a gallery stretched canvas primed with black acrylic gesso. The image continues around the staple-free sides. This painting may be displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a decorative display easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass. |

We each know love differently.
