This subtle textured image is surprisingly powerful in person.
It works on a symbolic level. Like a dream that you almost
forgot. It is an elegant piece with layered hues and textures
and clean lines, too.
I have always been intrigued by symbols and the way they reach us directly on an emotional level. This unusual painting has three small "windows" carved into the surface and connected by "threads" that weave across the canvas. The top window features a small symbolic cat. The second window has leaves and vines. And the third window has a dove in flight. The threads that connect the images also run off the sides of the canvas presumably to connect with unseen windows. Maybe with other elements in your home or office. The single sentence painted in the lower third of the canvas reads, "All living things are connected." I am hopeful that this peaceful painting will bring a calming bit of nature to your life. How Living Things was created..... This piece was built up over many many many layers. Some of the colors were applied with palette knives, some with my fingers, some with brushes, and some with a damp cloth. I used a scraper to clear the colors and textures from the "window" areas. And I used tiny detail brushes to paint (and repaint) the crisp lines and the carefully composed scenes. As well as the words. Living Things was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides. This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.
