These odd little birds keep popping up in my work. I am not
sure where they come from, but I am always happy to see them.
They appear in some of my very favorite pieces. I especially
love this unusual image because of the sentiment as well as the
composition. The words in this piece read, "Mating for life
does not have to be complicated."
Some birds mate for life. If they can do it, why can't we? Birds don't see marriage counselors or read self-help books or watch Dr. Phil. They just pick a partner and that it is it. The commitment has been made and they stick with it. Period. No looking back. Maybe we could learn something from that? I think this piece would make a neat wedding or anniversary gift, or if you are single and looking, it might be a nice gift to give yourself. It is a good reminder to relax and not to overanalyze. How Mates was created..... After the black gesso primer dried, I used brushes, palette knives, crumpled paper towels and a soft cloth to layer colors all across this panel. Unusual hues were rubbed on and blotted up and patted on and scrubbed though and brushed on, too. Finally, when the many layers of underpainting had dried, I used tiny detail brushes to create the fabulous birds and to add the words and accent lines. Mates was painted on a rigid canvas panel. The edges of the panel have been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting. ***NOTE: I can include a new plastic stand with your order at no charge if you request one at the time of payment.
