I love this landscape.  For years I have painted variations on this theme, but Me and the Moon feels special.  The light, the dynamic between the lone tree and the full moon, the deep colors.  This piece is particularly captivating.  It continues my interest in the subtle inclusion of language in art with a single phrase painted in two parts.  In tiny hidden black letters located in the bottom right corner of the painting are the words, "This old moon and I", and below that, "we go way back."  There is a stillness to this scene.  A sense of quiet magic.  Like anything is possible.

This colorful painting is intended to light the home of some fellow dreamer out there.  Someone who knows that wishes made at the proper moment most certainly do come true.

How Me and the Moon was created.....   After I primed this wooden panel with black acrylic gesso, I used wide soft brushes to lay down a solid swatch of blue for the sky and solid green for the land.  I left a thin line of black gesso showing through between the two.  When that base dried, I laid down a coat of lighter blue over top of the sky and lighter green over the land.  Then I used a textured cloth to blot that top layer up in strategic places.  Creating a nice mottling affect.  Next, I used mid-sized brushes to paint in the highlights of yellow-fading-to-lime-green along the land and teal-fading-to-warm blue in the sky and around where the moon would be.  Finally, I took tiny detail brushes and painted the sharp black lines that define the scene.  Once those lines dried, I used the same tiny detail brushes to paint the glorious moon and the strong little tree and the sparkling stars and the words.

(The sides have been painted black.  This is a digital photo.  The scans above and below are more accurate.)

Me and the Moon was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel.  ***NOTE: I can include a new black, wood, mission-style display easel with your order for just $10.00. Please email me and let me know if you would like one.
