Mortality

Completed in 2007

5" x 7"

Acrylic on Belgian linen panel

(Detailed scans.  This piece is FAR more lovely in person than these scans convey.  The transitions between colors are softer and the hues are more delicate.)

This is a beautiful subtle painting to see in person and I am disappointed that my scanner cannot adequately capture the nuances of this piece.  The bird is so light and hopeful and serene.  The colors are soothing.  This is a special painting and I hope it brings you peace.

How this artwork was created.....   This is a traditional brush painting.

Mortality was painted on a gorgeous panel of Belgian linen bonded with traditional rabbit-skin glue to a ¼” thick piece of masonite. The linen was primed with top-grade, old school gesso. It is the perfect surface for detailed painting. The texture of linen is so much finer than canvas.  (I should note that I buy these panels already prepared in this way.  I did not glue the linen myself.)   The sides of the panel are painted to match.
