This image makes me so happy.  I am thrilled with the abstract expressionist painting in the background.  The detailed moth is lovely and charming.  And I identify so strongly with the words.  If I am to believe what I see in the media, most people want to be beautiful butterflies that dance on the wind and delight in the attention of awestruck onlookers.  That is wonderful and the world is certainly richer for the beauty of the butterflies.  But I think there are plenty of us moth-people in the world, too.  Content to fly quietly about the forest and to rest our camouflaged wings on the shady side of a tree.

I am hopeful that Moth will bring comfort and smiles to the home of some woodsy soul out there.

How Moth was created.....   After the black gesso primer dried, I used palette knives to pull very small amounts of paint carefully across the canvas in thin layers.  Once all of those layers dried, I used brushes to paint the "window" and the moth and the words.

I would rather be a moth than a butterfly.
