I cannot begin to tell you what this piece means to me. It feels like freedom to me. Like my head opening up so the real me can escape. I have had this idea in my mind for ages but I never felt qualified to let it out. And I wasn't, either. I could not have pulled this piece off before. I needed the nearly 1,500 pieces I have completed first to prepare me to be this bold and wild and odd and confident. And expressive. It took me a LONG TIME to let myself out with no restrictions in this way. I LOVE THIS PAINTING. I hope it finds a good new home with someone who understands. How My Bears and Me was created..... This is a traditional brush painting, though I did use dental tools as noted above. This piece was painted on a thin wooden board. I believe the wood is Russian Birch. It is .25" thick and very hard. This piece could be displayed unframed if you like. Or it could be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass. PLEASE NOTE: My primitive sawtooth hangers will not work on this wood, so you have four options if you choose to display this painting unframed. You can display in on an easel. You can display it leaned against the wall on a small shelf or any flat surface. (We have several similar pieces displayed in our home sitting on a window molding - above the window - leaning against the wall. They look lovely there.) You can bring the piece to any custom frame shop and for about $10 they will attach a different kind of hanger to the back for you. Or you can drill holes in the top corners and string this piece on a leather cord or piece of heavy twine. |
