I
have been feeling my age lately. My birthday always does that
to me. But no matter how many laments I may have about organs
and joints and muscles that ain't what they used to be, the truth is
that I am still glad to be getting older. I did not much enjoy
being young. My mind and my emotions work better now and that
means I am more peaceful, more at ease. My soul is stronger. The words in this piece read: I am wiser now. This painting has some wonderful loose fresh expressive abstract painting combined with great detail work. It feels like finding a perfect leaf in the midst of a dense forest. Or something like that. Old trees that have survived many human lifetimes always help me keep my troubles in perspective. I am hopeful this unique painting will always help you to see the blessings inherent in your maturity. How Older was created... The sides and edges of this lush painting were textured with fine sand suspended in a clear acrylic medium. The result is a very soft organic type of texture. After that layer dried, I used palette knives and a variety of brushes to create a rich vibrant abstract piece. Then I used tiny detail brushes to paint the trees and the words and several accent lines.
(The image and textures continue around the sides so you can display your new artwork unframed. This is a digital photo, the scans above are more accurate.) This piece was painted on a larger 6" x 12" stretched canvas. The sides of this piece DO have staples but they are covered by layers of texture and color and are not visible. This piece looks lovely displayed as it is without framing either directly on the wall or on a small decorative easel or stand. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass.

SPECIAL NOTE: This site is gigantic. And it evolved over the course of ten years and 2,000 paintings. So far as I know, this is the largest single-artist portfolio website on the internet. Very exciting, but I am a technological boob and I maintain this site all by myself. That means there are glitches here and there. Some pages are outdated. Some formatting looks out of whack on different browsers. You get the idea. I apologize if you run into problems. PLEASE email me and tell me about 'em so I can fix them. Thank you! Love to you, Melissa |
