I love white birch trees.  I always have.  Rural Minnesota is filled with white birch and I remember being fascinated by them as a kid.  Watching them through car windows on long family drives or walking by them in the woods.  They are so pretty.

This scene is very interesting to me.  I grayed down all of the hues and softened the shadows to give it a cooler heavier feel.  The way weather feels just before the snow starts to fall.  But the composition is unusual and creates a wee bit of tension.  So I feel like I might enjoy resting on that bench on a sunnier, simpler day.  But maybe today I should hurry on home and have some hot cider.

How Park Bench was created.....   I stopped in a cute little park to stretch my legs and was happy to discover some nice scenery.  First, I used a very fine black pen to sketch this image.  Then, later, I used colored inks to flesh it out and I finished this piece with layers of oil pastel.  I used a dental tool to scratch through the oil pastel and reveal the ink lines below in some places.

Park Bench was drawn on acid-free, heavy, white watercolor paper.  You will want to frame this lovely drawing to protect your investment.  One affordable means of framing is to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the artwork together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame.
