Oil pastel on acid-free mat board

This drawing is so warm and soft and sweet.  I am really pleased that it came together so well.  It is a quiet but solid image that should frame up beautifully.  The message here is simple.  When I am prioritizing my life, attempting to compartmentalize my concerns, I tend to make things more complicated then they need to be.  This unique little abstract drawing is a reminder to keep it simple.  Allow my heart to lead me.  My heart knows the way.

I am hopeful this unique drawing will bring a bit of light and clarity to your home or office.

How Prioritize was created.....   Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  As I often do, I laid down a VERY bright underpainting and then used a straight-edged razor blade to strip that off, leaving behind colorful stains on the mat board.  Next, I built up layers and layers of lighter colors and white.  The lines that appear dark were created by scratching through the lighter top layers to the original drawing below.  The heart is the only area of this drawing where the top layer was finished in color.

Prioritize was created on a white acid-free mat board.  You will want to frame this piece to protect your investment.  One affordable way to frame this unique drawing would be to purchase a standard-sized 11" x 14" frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the drawing together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the drawing to fit the frame.  That would give you a decent sized mat border on all sides and would allow for a lovely presentation of your new drawing.
