This painting represents my best work in ages.  I began this piece three different times before quitting in frustration and then...  it all came together like a dream.  That is how it works sometimes.  This painting is filled with warm light and rich hues and fluid lines.  And the birds have such charming expressions.  There are beautiful soft transitions and sharp sharp details, too.

This was actually created as a proposal of marriage.  I was contacted by the partner of one of my good customers.  He asked if I would help him pop the question.  What fun!  Of course she said yes.  Awe...

How Proposal was created.....   This is a traditional brush painting.  The detailed bits were painted with an 18/0 spotter brush.

This piece is on a gorgeous panel of Belgian linen bonded with traditional rabbit-skin glue to a ¼” thick piece of masonite. The linen was primed with top-grade, old school gesso. It is the perfect surface for detailed painting. The texture of linen is so much finer than canvas.  The painting continues around the edges.
