MY REACTION: Oh these new pieces are like delicious exotic fruits. The colors are so ripe. In these works, I am just as focused on the use of color and the application of materials as I would be when creating a landscape or a portrait. These are beautiful abstracts first and foremost, the words come second. But the words add something, too, I hope. CONTENT: Mmmm... this one is my favorite. I am all about power these days. Reacting to life from a position of strength. And there is nothing in this world (except maybe a buffalo or a bald eagle) as glorious as a powerful woman, is there? A woman who is strong in sherbet colors. What could be more hopeful? (Have you ever noticed that the strongest men, the really brave ones, the ones with huge spirits, the strongest men all seem to exhibit enormous love and respect for women? And to acknowledge the innate power of women? Strong men are wonderful, too.) ARTISTIC CONCERNS: This is a multi-layered oil pastel drawing with a wee bit of graphite. Many lines and letters are "etched" into the oil pastel with a dental tool. Some areas are purposefully rough and sketchy. Because life looses a bit of magic when you polish it too much. As for inspiration: These pieces, more then most, show how I have been affected by the gorgeous works of both Paul Klee and Wolf Kahn. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: This piece will need to be matted and framed if you want to protect your investment.
