Isn't this a fun one? Who can resist a penguin in glasses? This bright playful image had me smiling the whole time I painted it. I am hopeful it will brighten the home of some fellow book lover out there. How Reading was created..... This is mostly a traditional brush painting. I did use palette knives in the underpainting stage in order to add some faint texture. After that, it was straightforward brush painting.
(The image continues around the sides. This is a digital photo. The scans above and below are more accurate.) Reading was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel.
