I paint trees for the same reason that some people meditate.  And not surprisingly, my tree paintings often feel like meditations to me.  Or prayers.  This gorgeous little tree has a message.  In tiny letters, painted in her shadow, is the word, "Rest."  She wants you to sit in the shade she has provided.  And to breathe deeply of the fresh air that she is sharing.  Because life passes too quickly and we all need to take more time out just to rest and to breathe and to feel.

I am hopeful this warm colorful landscape will bring a touch of Nature's calm to your too busy home or office.

How Rest was created.....   This is a traditional brush painting.  I used a stippling brush to paint the tree and her shadow.  And I used an 18/0 spotter brush to add key details and the words.

This piece is on a gorgeous panel of Belgian linen bonded with traditional rabbit-skin glue to a ¼” thick piece of masonite. The linen was primed with top-grade, old school gesso. It is the perfect surface for detailed painting. The texture of linen is so much finer than canvas.

The painting continues around the edges.

Rest can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.  Or is can be displayed on a small decorative easel or plastic stand.
