ABOUT THIS PIECE: I have begun a wonderful new series of abstract paintings that are loose and bold and experiential. All about paint and color and emotion. Less conscious than my usual work. And like Rorschach ink blots, they hold limitless stories so each viewer can find their own path through. Like clouds, too! I am so surprised by the reaction I am getting to this series. Folks love to tell me what they see in these. It is almost as if people are hungry for a chance to find their own visions. To see things that are not already pre-defined. To see without being told what to see. I am not sure if that make sense, but I am really enjoying these Rorschach pieces. It is HARD for me to not impose my own visions on them, to allow them to remain undefined all the way to the end. But I love it. This is a really unusual piece! And typically when I create things that fall outside my normal frame of reference, I feel knotted inside and I struggle with whether to paint over the uncomfortable stuff or to release it to the public. Not in this case. I LOVE this strange piece. I cannot explain the strength of my affection for it. But it feels like a fairytale to me. Like something mysterious from my childhood. Once those shapes were pinned down, I felt that my male viewers would more than likely see them as animal tracks and my female viewers would more than likely see them as flowers. So the rest of this piece evolved from that idea. The words in this one read, "Tracks and flowers. Hunters and gatherers are not so different." Because I think at the end of the day we all just want to feel productive. Like we accomplished something. Like life is just a wee bit better for the efforts we made. Here are the other five pieces in the Rorschach series so far...
HOW IT WAS MADE: I used palette knives and brushes to realize this interesting image. DISPLAY OPTIONS: This piece could be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass. Or it would also display nicely sitting on a small decorative easel or stand just as it is, no framing needed. I will include a small plastic stand for free if you request one at the time of payment.
