Ready Set Go

Completed in 2006

4.6" x 3.6"

Oil pastel over ink, on acid-free mat board

(Enlarged to show details.  Many of the lines in this piece were lightly "etched" in the surface with a dental tool.)

The layered hues in this piece are very rich.  And the whole drawing has this wonderful sense of purposeful action.  This is one of my favorite new pieces and I am hoping it will bring you comfort and inspiration.

How Ready Set Go was created.....   First, I used artists markers filled with colored India ink to create a vivid underpainting.  The background was dark red, the arrows were orange and the heart was green.  Then I used oil pastels to layer luscious color atop that base.  After I completed all of the color work, I used a dental tool to scratch through to the ink below in order to create the crisp outlines.

Ready Set Go was drawn on acid-free white mat board.  You will want to frame this lovely drawing to protect your investment.  One affordable means of framing is to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the artwork together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame.
