I do not want to say too much about this piece.  It has a very specific meaning to me, but I recognize that it is open to many different interpretations and I want you to see your own meaning.  I love this painting and I have to say that it is a much more elegant piece in person than it appears to be here.  My scanner cannot quite capture the subtleties of this rich composition.  This small painting also has an unexpectedly large presence.

How Rules was created.....   After the black gesso primer dried, I layered blocks and lines of bright bold color.  Once those colors dried, I laid down contrasting hues - again in big blocks and in fine lines.  Then I pulled the image together with fields of brilliant white and crisp black lines.  The "walls" here are purposefully wobbly and mismatched.

Rules was painted on a rigid canvas panel.  The edges of the panel have been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel.   Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.

No more rules.
