This piece is so full! The textures, the colors, the
sentiment, the feeling, and that pig! This is a beautiful
painting with a big presence. It draws the viewer in and it
sticks with you.
The words in this painting read, "Current events bring me down." I have been feeling gray lately. A little dulled. Flat. And I found my mood lightening this past week when I stopped watching the news and stopped visiting CNN's website. I wonder what good it does us as a society to expose ourselves daily to the murders, abductions, assaults and attacks that happen around the globe. And I wonder how much better we might feel if we could leave that news behind for the experience of the day's natural news. Leaves unfolding, snow melting, skies brightening. My soul is relieved that I have changed channels and sought out a higher sort of "current events". I am hopeful that this gorgeous rich layered painting will bring a fresh perspective and a smile or two to your home or office. How Sensitive Pig was created..... After the black acrylic gesso dried, I used coarse brushes and thicker paint to create the underlying textures and the wild expressionist underpainting. Then, I used softer brushes and thinner washed to apply many softer layers on top. I used a dental tool to scratch a few lines in for emphasis. And I finished the piece using tiny 18/0 spotter brushes to paint that beautiful pig and the accent lines and the words. This piece was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so this artwork would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel.
