This is one of my favorite images of 2005. It took me a very
long time to complete this little Angel and there were many times
during the process where I wanted to give up and throw this canvas
in the trash because I could not see it coming together. I got
lost in this one. And then one day I sat down with an open
mind and a quiet heart and this small elegant Angel appeared out of
nowhere to cheer me up. Isn't she lovely? I adore this
piece. The abstract expressionist painting behind the Angel is
filled with rich satisfying layers of color and texture. And
the soft unexpected hues that make up the pretty snow Angel are so
exciting. This is such a strong symbolic image that I felt
words were unnecessary here. I hope this beautiful gentle Snow Angel brings a peaceful bit of comfort and inspiration to your home or office. How Snow Angel was created..... I used palette knives to lay down a textured layer of acrylic modeling paste on the sides and outer edges of the canvas. Once that layered dried, I used brushes, my fingers, a rag, palette knives, and paper towels to layer on all of the colors. In between layers, I sometimes used a dental tool to scratch in the central "window" area and to abrade the textures around the edges of the piece. When all of the many many layers had dried, I used tiny detail brushes to create the special Angel. Snow Angel was painted on a 6" x 6" stretched canvas. The sides of this piece DO have staples but they are covered by layers of texture and color and they do not show at all. This painting looks lovely displayed as it is without framing either directly on the wall or on a small decorative easel or stand. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass. |
