I love performing chickens.  Singing chickens, dancing chickens, operatic chickens.  I can't get enough of those chickens.  This is an unusual painting.  The palette here is unexpected.  The composition, too.  And the scale.  I think this chicken is from a dollhouse farm.  Or maybe it is the rarest prize from a gumball machine.

The words in this piece read:  The music is in me.  Because some folks just have it inside and they have to let it out.  I am not one of those folks.  I am in awe of performers.  I have colors in me instead.  But I hope this chicken inspires you to sing your heart out.

How Song Bird was created:  Oh boy.  This one has many layers.  I know I used a palette knife in the beginning.  And I cleared the texture away from that window area.  After that it is all a blur.  I used a cloth and my fingers and a giant stippling brush and variety of traditional paint brushes to give this chicken a home.

Song Bird was painted on a rigid canvas panel.  The edges of the panel have also been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel.   It could also be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.

The music is in me.
