Crayola crayon on acid-free mat board

What a beautiful day this was. I was so happy to be outside in the sun with that crisp autumn air. It was divine. And to be near water is especially soothing. Good for the soul. I drew this piece on location. From observation. I hope I captured a wee bit of the magic I saw. I hope this drawing feeds your spirit just a teeny bit. The way this peaceful place fed mine. There were three elegant dead trees standing together on a small island of sorts in front of many lush green growing trees. I liked how the dead trees belonged there just as surely as the live ones did. And I liked how they all came together to offer up an especially enchanting scene. How this drawing was created..... I used a 96 color box of Crayola crayons to create this lush vibrant image of a Minnesota landscape. I actually sat on the rocky shore for several hours drawing this. Crayola crayon drawings are very labor intensive and sadly I cannot find the time to work in this media very often anymore. I regret that because crayons allow for a dreamy kind of color that is unique and offers universal appeal. Everyone loves crayons! The colors in this drawing were layered and layered and layered to reach this luminous state of "stained-glass-like" warmth. After I finish working on crayon pieces, my hands ache for a couple of days from the intense pressure I have to apply to get these colors. This piece was created on an acid-free white mat board. You will want to frame it to protect your investment. One affordable way to frame this unique drawing would be to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the drawing together to a custom-framer. Ask the framer to mat the drawing to fit the frame. |
