MY REACTION:  This is a beautiful little gem.  The colors here are so bold and energetic.  And that watchful buffalo will always lend you her strength.

CONTENT:  This piece is important to me for two reasons.  First, it marks my spiritual return to the land of the living.  After some absence where I needed other animals to guide me through.  Like rabbits and bats and armadillos.  To help me face my fears and imagine a new life and separate myself from those around me.  But now I am back!  As me.  With my buffalo.  And that is good.  Very good.  Now, not to worry, those other animals will likely continue to appear in my work from time to time just as the buffalo did appear occasionally even in my darker times.  But those other critters will now play supporting roles.  And likely new friends will begin appearing, too.

Secondly, this piece marks a MAJOR milestone in my work.  At least it is major for me.  After fifteen hundred original works or so, I have finally make the difficult call to begin reusing names as I see fit.  I knew this day would come.  But I had to wait until a piece came along that simply demanded a given name.  This one was the piece.  It HAD TO be named Spirit.  So now that door is open.  You may see names reappearing.  I will not be sequencing them.  Meaning there will not be Spirit l and Spirit ll.  They will simply have the same name.  We will use the year of completion to differentiate them.  So this one is Spirit '08.  I will only use names twice.  For now.  It took me ten years to get here, so I reserve the right to reuse names again if I so choose starting in 2018.  :)

ARTISTIC CONCERNS:  This piece is nicely textured and filled with fabulous color!  This is a knife and brush painting.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:  This piece is on a rigid canvas panel.  It can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass.  It could also be displayed unframed on a small display easel.
