I am really excited about this piece.  I had a lot of fun painting this and I am so happy about how these two media - gouache and ink - work together here.  I felt loose and free working this way and cannot wait to do more of these paintings.  Strong Woman is a bright pretty painting filled with layers of vibrant color.  It also features a nice open composition and a crisp little sentiment, too.  The words here read, "I am a strong woman, but... I am not afraid to be delicate or soft."  Because too often women today feel as though we have to choose between being strong and being whole.

I am hopeful this pretty little piece brings a bit of feminine grace to your home or office.

How Strong Woman was created.....   Gouache is like watercolor, only it is opaque rather than transparent.  I use this media in much the same manner that I use acrylics.  The difference is that these colors can be blended with water and are capable of much softer, more gradual transitions.  This media is also less forgiving than traditional acrylic paint and requires more forethought and more patience.  Once the gouache painting was finished, I went in with the teeniest tiniest ink pen you have ever seen and added the words and a few details.  The nib on this pen measures .2 millimeters!!  Can you imagine?  I adore this pen.  The ink used here is lightfast and archival.

Strong Woman was painted on acid-free heavy weight paper.  You will want to frame this piece to protect your investment.  To frame your new painting affordably, you can pick up a ready-made frame at your local home or discount store and then bring the frame with the painting to a custom-framer.  The framer can mat the painting to fit the frame.  *** Please note:  This painting has a slim white border of unpainted paper running around all sides.  It can be "floated" on a neutral background when framing or you may choose to mat right up to the edges of the image.

I am a strong woman, but...

I am not afraid to be delicate or soft.
