Tiny Art #428
Completed in 2007
1.5" square
Acrylic paint on a pine wood block

(Enlarged to show detail.)

(These began as unfinished children's toy blocks. Sizes shapes and surface textures vary slightly. The painting continues around the sides of each block. These are digital photos. The scans above and below are more accurate.)

(The expressive abstract painting on all sides of each block is rich and vibrant and exciting in its own right. This is a detailed scan offering a true image of the colors used.)
(Here is the whole series of symbol blocks.)

ABOUT THIS PIECE: I bought a set of three tiny paintings about 10 years ago and I have been passionate about tiny art ever since. I love the intimacy of holding a work of art in the palm of my hand. I love how tiny art draws you in, begging to be studied. Whispering its story quietly to one viewer at a time. There is just something magical about tiny art. Beginning in Summer 2004, I am creating a series of 1,000 unique miniature paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Each piece in the series will be numbered, signed and dated. The subject matter of these new pieces will run the gamut, but I do expect to see all of my common themes appearing in miniature. Hopefully, I will discover some new directions as well. The only parameters that I have set are maximum dimensions of 3” square. THE PROCESS: Each of these pieces is a unique, hand-made, original work of art. As with my traditional work, I pay very close attention to composition, color use, line quality and lighting. I have not compromised my commitment to quality in any way. I have simply traded my usual brushes for really teeny ones and I am using some magnifying tools to keep me from going blind. DISPLAY OPTIONS: This painting looks wonderful shown alone or in a grouping of similar pieces.
This piece will arrive protected with
waxed paper and sandwiched between sheets of sturdy cardboard. |
