Tiny Art #466

Completed in 2007

2.5" x 3.5"

Acrylic on masonite

(Enlarged to show detail.  Some of the lines are scratched in the surface with a dental tool.  Some of the lines are layers of underpainting allowed to show through top layers.)

ABOUT THIS PIECE I have waited so long to create these new paintings.  To create in this way.  Without inhibitions or rules.  From my heart.  Pure feeling.  Pure paint and lines and textures and the raw root of my experience.  These new pieces are the end result of many many years spent practicing the skills of making art while at the same time doing battle against my wild inside.  Finally my visions are coming into balance with my ability to convey them.

To paint in this way.  With everything exposed.  Without any fancy impressive details to distract you.  That takes a level of courage I never possessed until now.  But I am finally at a point in my career and in my life as a woman on this earth where I am entirely invested in the process of bringing these images to life and I have let go entirely of the need for reassurance and comfort.  These paintings are how I feel the world.  Pure and simple.  And I am ecstatic to welcome them.

I thought when I finally got here that paintings of this nature would emerge quickly.  Evolve quickly.  Surprisingly, these emotive expressive pieces take me as long - if not longer! - to create than my usual more careful pieces do.  There are so many layers.  And so much to see.

I cannot tell whether this new way of working will captivate my existing customers, all I can say is that I hope they touch your heart in some way.  They come to you straight from mine.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:  I bought a set of three tiny paintings about 10 years ago and I have been passionate about tiny art ever since. I love the intimacy of holding a work of art in the palm of my hand. I love how tiny art draws you in, begging to be studied. Whispering its story quietly to one viewer at a time. There is just something magical about tiny art.

Beginning in Summer 2004, I am creating a series of 1,000 unique miniature paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Each piece in the series will be numbered, signed and dated.

The subject matter of these new pieces will run the gamut, but I do expect to see all of my common themes appearing in miniature. Hopefully, I will discover some new directions as well. The only parameters that I have set are maximum dimensions of 3.5” square.

THE PROCESS:  Each of these pieces is a unique, hand-made, original work of art. As with my traditional work, I pay very close attention to composition, color use, line quality and lighting. I have not compromised my commitment to quality in any way. I have simply traded my usual brushes and tools for really teeny ones and I am using some magnifying aids to keep me from going blind.

DISPLAY OPTIONS:  This painting looks wonderful shown alone or in a grouping of similar pieces.

These pieces can be displayed on small plastic display stands.  (I will include a clear plastic stand with this painting at no charge if you request one at the time of payment.)  Or they can be easily and affordably framed as they require no matting or glass.

This artwork will arrive protected with waxed paper and sandwiched between sheets of sturdy cardboard.
YOUR NEW ARTWORK WILL BE SHIPPED FOR FREE via USPS First Class Mail within five business days of the time your payment clears.

A NOTE TO COLLECTORS OF ART CARDS (ACEO's):  These ACEO pieces are created on 1/8" masonite.  They are too thick to fit in those little plastic storage sleeves that some folks use.
