Tiny Art #470
Completed in 2007
2.5" x 3.5"
Ink on heavy white paper

(Enlarged to show detail. The words read, "Television scares me." I think tv is dangerous and needs to be used in moderation. With conscious thought. Otherwise it can eat up not only countless hours/days/weeks of your life, but also your self-esteem, too. All that marketing designed to make you feel inadequate and incomplete so you will go buy stuff. It is creepy.)

(Here is the Story Lines series so far.)

ABOUT THIS PIECE: I bought a set of three tiny paintings about 10 years ago and I have been passionate about tiny art ever since. I love the intimacy of holding a work of art in the palm of my hand. I love how tiny art draws you in, begging to be studied. Whispering its story quietly to one viewer at a time. There is just something magical about tiny art. Beginning in Summer 2004, I am creating a series of 1,000 unique miniature paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Each piece in the series will be numbered, signed and dated. The subject matter of these new pieces will run the gamut, but I do expect to see all of my common themes appearing in miniature. Hopefully, I will discover some new directions as well. The only parameters that I have set are maximum dimensions of 3.5” square. THE PROCESS: Each of these pieces is a unique, hand-made, original work of art. As with my traditional work, I pay very close attention to composition, color use, line quality and lighting. I have not compromised my commitment to quality in any way. I have simply traded my usual brushes and tools for really teeny ones and I am using some magnifying aids to keep me from going blind. DISPLAY OPTIONS: This painting looks wonderful shown alone or in a grouping of similar pieces. You will want to frame your new artwork to protect your investment. One affordable way to frame these unique drawings would be to purchase standard-sized frames at your local home store and then bring the frames and the artwork together to a custom-framer. Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame. These pieces would look lovely with a neutral mat and a low-profile frame.
This artwork will arrive protected with
waxed paper and sandwiched between sheets of sturdy cardboard. |

SPECIAL NOTE: This site is gigantic. And it evolved over the course of ten years and 2,000 paintings. So far as I know, this is the largest single-artist portfolio website on the internet. Very exciting, but I am a technological boob and I maintain this site all by myself. That means there are glitches here and there. Some pages are outdated. Some formatting looks out of whack on different browsers. You get the idea. I apologize if you run into problems. PLEASE email me and tell me about 'em so I can fix them. Thank you! Love to you, Melissa |
