Tiny Art #579 - Buffalo, Self

Completed in 2008

1" x 2.3"

Acrylic on a thin wood shape

The words in this piece read:  Self.

(Enlarged to show details.  This piece is visibly textured.  The words and the heart were engraved in the surface with a dental tool.)

ABOUT THIS PIECE:  This is one of my favorite Tiny Art paintings in a long while.  Self is such an important concept.  And one many of us spend so little time on.  Bison are important symbols to me.  Images of courage and sacrifice.  Before we can give freely of ourselves, we must first have a decent inventory of what we have to share.  To be selfless is not to leave your self unknown, but to know yourself well enough that your own concerns drop away and allow you to see the hearts of others, you know?  This beautiful little bison fetish is a wonderful reminder to enjoy your own company and value your own gifts.  Painted with love.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:  I bought a set of three tiny paintings about 10 years ago and I have been passionate about tiny art ever since. I love the intimacy of holding a work of art in the palm of my hand. I love how tiny art draws you in, begging to be studied. Whispering its story quietly to one viewer at a time. There is just something magical about tiny art.

Beginning in Summer 2004, I am creating a series of 1,000 unique miniature paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Each piece in the series will be numbered, signed and dated.

The subject matter of these new pieces will run the gamut, but I do expect to see all of my common themes appearing in miniature. Hopefully, I will discover some new directions as well. The only parameters that I have set are maximum dimensions of 3.5” square.

THE PROCESS:  Each of these pieces is a unique, hand-made, original work of art. As with my traditional work, I pay very close attention to composition, color use, line quality and lighting. I have not compromised my commitment to quality in any way. I have simply traded my usual brushes and tools for really teeny ones and I am using some magnifying aids to keep me from going blind.

DISPLAY OPTIONS This painting looks wonderful shown alone or in a grouping of similar pieces.

You can frame your new painting.  Or you can display it on a small display stand just as it is without framing.  I will include a stand at no charge if you request one at the time of payment.  Or you might choose to carry this piece with you for luck.  It will arrive wrapped in a soft cloth and tucked inside a drawstring pouch.

YOUR NEW ARTWORK WILL BE SHIPPED FOR FREE via USPS First Class Mail within five business days of the time your payment clears.  This piece will be varnished for safe handling.  The back side is unfinished.  That is where I have signed, dated, and titled the piece.  (This piece is NOT signed on the front, only the back.)
