I cannot possibly explain this painting.  I have some theories, but they are only guesses.  Mostly it just makes me very happy.  Watch out, this character will grow on you.  I am pretty sure this is an eel.  But my partner, Mike, thinks it is a pickle.

I am hopeful this unusual, funny, emotional painting will bring smiles and a few puzzled expressions to your home or office.

How The Poet was created...  After the black gesso primer dried, I used palette knives to create a fun expressionist painting filled with deep purples and blues and reds.  I removed paint from the areas that would become "windows".  Once that nicely textured layer had dried, I used wide soft brushes to apply warmer purple and lavender washes.  Then I used tiny detail brushes to create the eel king and to add the words.

The Poet was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be shown on a small decorative easel.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.

You might be surprised.
