This warm burst of color was a real joy to create and I am hopeful
it will brighten spirits in your home or office, too. It is
filled with gorgeous unexpected bits of bright color and it has a
wonderful open composition. Like a summer off from school when
anything is possible. How this layered painting was created..... Once the black gesso primer dried, I used brushes and a dry cloth and my fingers to apply many layers of lightly textured color. Sometimes I waited for the paint to dry between application and sometimes I allowed wet paint to blend on the canvas. I used a small scraper to remove the paint and texture from the small "window" where the sun now peaks through. And then I used tiny detail brushes to paint the sun and the words. The Sun was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides. This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall. Or it can be shown on a small decorative easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass. This piece also sits well on edge and can be displayed that way. Please let me know if you plan to display this painting in a manner that might involve regular handling. I will happily apply several coats of non-yellowing varnish to protect the surface if you request it.
