I love this piece.  It is an unusual symbolic painting that is open and accessible and clear.  A neat hopeful painting about changing and growing and forgiving ourselves for all of our past clumsiness.  Caterpillars are my new favorite symbol.  I am going through a time of change in my own life and I always smile when I see images of caterpillars.  They inspire me.  I am ready to become a butterfly now.

Transformation was painting to help some other confused soul like me to recognize that we were created to become much more than we have settled for.  Start building your cocoon!  The time has come to shed your worm skin and unfold your wings.

The words in this fun painting read, "We each start life slow and awkward and we are all capable of...  TRANSFORMATION."

How Transformation was created.....   After the black gesso primer dried, I used a palette knife to spread a very thin layer of fine artist-grade stucco across the segment at the left end of the panel.  Then I used an old credit card to scrape the stucco off the area where the long window now appears.  Next, I used crinkled up paper towels to dab on all sorts of rich Spring colors all across the right side of the panel.  While that layer was still wet, I used a dental tool to "engrave" or scratch in a small rectangle that would eventually hold the window with the butterfly.  After that bit had dried, I went back and applied two more layers of mottled spring colors across the right section and I used brushes to apply those same colors in a different way to the left section.  Finally, I used tiny detail brushes to paint each "window" scene and the words.

Transformation was painted on a rigid canvas panel.  The edges of the panel have been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel.   Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.
