This is such a neat little painting. The textures and colors are soft, organic and fertile. The lines are sharp and assertive in contrast. And the subject matter is so poetic. This piece contains the single word, "Home." And it shows three crows resting in a dead or dormant tree. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. We all belong here. It is just a matter of where you will feel most comfortable. Many folks find dead or dormant trees unattractive. (Not me!) But that may be the perfect home for you. Or maybe you would be happier nesting in a tropical flowering tree on some secluded island? Or perhaps you might prefer the hustle and bustle and constant activity of city life? Maybe you want to nest in the eaves of the local McDonalds? Or maybe you want the peace of a pine in the mountains. The point is that you have a home out there somewhere that will suit you and comfort you and allow you to settle in. How We All Belong was created... I used some spiffy texturing gel that has teeny tiny glass beads suspended in clear acrylic emulsion. That is the cool texture you see all around the central "window". Once that layer dried, I used wide soft brushes to layer transparent washes across the whole piece. Then I used a giant stippling brush to add some variety. And I finished the painting using tiny 18/0 detail brushes to paint that expressive tree and the little crows. We All Belong was completed on a rigid canvas panel. The edges of the panel have also been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.
