This enchanted scene fascinates me. I know I have painted many floating houses over the years and many simple landscapes, but each one has been different and this one is the most different. This one makes the whole scene feel utterly new to me. The layers and layers of color make me giddy. The contrast between the loose free expressive painting in the background and the crisp careful painting in the house is somehow comforting to me. The lighting is inspirational. The whole piece is just so satisfying. Captivating. Like the rest of your life all laid out in front of you. Filled with unexpected surprises. Delicious. How What a Journey was created..... I used palette knives and a wide variety of brushes to reveal this special scene. This piece was painted on a thin wooden board. I believe the wood is Russian Birch. It is .25" thick and very hard. The sides have been painted black for a finished look and this piece could be displayed unframed if you like. Or it could be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass. PLEASE NOTE: My primitive sawtooth hangers will not work on this wood, so you have three options if you choose to display this painting unframed. You can display in on an easel. You can display it leaned against the wall on a small shelf or any flat surface. (We have several similar pieces displayed in our home sitting on a window molding - above the window - leaning against the wall. They look lovely there.)Or you can bring the piece to any custom frame shop and for about $10 they will attach a different kind of hanger to the back for you. |

Oh, what a journey.
