MY REACTION:  This is a powerful piece and especially so when you know the story behind it.  Filled with bold hopeful color and neat expressive texture.

CONTENT:  A romantic fellow commissioned this unique piece for his soul mate.  They were high school sweethearts who separated years ago, went through difficult marriages and divorces to other people, then rediscovered one another and found new hope in their rekindled love.  The hearts in this piece are warn and scarred to depict those life experiences that prepared these folks to appreciate each other fully once they reconnected.  The light is generated by the proximity of the two hearts nearly touching.  And the words came from this fellow as he noted that their love transformed them and when they came together again, she was his Angel and he was her Saint.

ARTISTIC CONCERNS:  This is a traditional brush painting, but I used my fingers and dental tools to apply acrylic modeling paste and build up the heart shapes.  Then I used a palette knife to scar and abrade those hearts.  Finally, I used my fingers and a soft cloth to rub transparent washes across the hearts to give them an aged or tarnished feel.  I used a tiny 18/0 detail brush to add the specks and the lines and the words.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:  This piece is on a gallery stretched canvas.  The painting continues around the staple-free sides.  It can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass.  It could also be displayed unframed on a small display easel.  This one also shows well on the wall as it is, unframed.
